Contact Lenses

At Kirman Eye, we love contact lenses!

We will happily find the right lens for you and your lifestyle. Our office offers everything from soft to custom contact lens evaluations with professional instruction. We even have great lens options for part-time contact wear.

Contact lenses can provide excellent benefits for many different lifestyles.

Contacts can be a great option for patients that engage in sports regularly and find that their spectacles can inhibit their performance. Others may simply enjoy the clear vision contact lenses provide, without having spectacle frames in their field of vision. At Kirman Eye, we’re keeping up with the latest in contact lens technology, and can prescribe lenses of every kind, from basic to specialty lenses.

A few of the contact lenses prescription types that we can address with contact lenses include:

  • Myopia (nearsightedness)
  • Hyperopia (farsightedness)
  • Astigmatism (an imperfection in the corneal curvature that causes blur)
  • Presbyopia (normal loss of focusing ability for reading caused by age)
  • Keratoconus (a condition in which the surface of the cornea becomes cone-shaped, resulting in blurry vision)

We also offer colored and prosthetic lenses in many unique designs and colors!

Soft Contact Lenses

Specialty Contact Lenses

LENS TYPES:

Soft contact lenses

Soft contact lenses come in a variety of materials and replacement schedules. Daily lenses are our #1 recommendation! Many patients consider them the best contact lenses because they are safe and so easy to handle. No cleaning is required because they are fresh and new each day. Central Pennsylvania is notorious for seasonal allergies and daily lenses help wearers to continue to enjoy contact lens wear all year long. Daily lenses are also great for tough work environments that are dry and dusty.

Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses (RGP contact lenses)

Rigid lenses are also a great option for patients. They provide a clear vision and can accommodate many different prescription types. They are easy to insert and remove and are cost-effective. We fit single-vision as well as bifocal and multifocal rigid prescription contact lenses.

Specialty Lenses

Some medical conditions such as keratoconus necessitate specialty contact lenses. We have many options for custom fits such as scleral lenses, hybrid lenses, and more. Please call with any specific questions on lens types that may be available for various visual and medical needs, as determined by your contact lenses prescription.

Myopia Control

Myopia, often referred to as nearsightedness, is a common refractive error of the eye where close objects are seen clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. This occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light rays to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. Myopia typically develops during childhood and tends to worsen gradually until early adulthood. It cannot be reversed, but it can be slowed down with proper treatment. Certain types of specialty contact lenses can help manage or slow the progression of myopia, such as Corneal Refractive Therapy lenses (sometimes referred to as Orthokeratology), and MiSight 1-day soft lenses.

Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, involves wearing specially designed rigid contact lenses overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea. This can provide clear vision during the day without the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses. Ortho-K has been shown to slow down the progression of nearsightedness in some cases, making it a popular choice for children and teenagers.
